The <hi>
(highligter) tag is used to indicate that a word or words within a text have a special format that cannot be defined by any other tag.
It should only be used in very specific cases: in the abbreviations with which we identify each manuscript, and mainly in the comments, since for the rest of the elements of our editions there are defined tags that identify them semantically without the need to indicate formatting.
When used alone, the system converts it to italic text. But using the @rendition
attribute, the following formatting can be inserted at character, word, or even whole paragraph level:
<hi rendition="simple:allcaps">
: for characters in capital letters.<hi rendition="simple:smallcaps">
: characters in small caps that maintain capitalisation.<hi rendition="simple:letterspace">
: for spaced characters, that is, where there is space between letters.<hi rendition="simple:typewriter">
: for single-spaced characters, where all letters have the same character width, like on an old typewriter.<hi rendition="simple:blackletter">
: for characters in Gothic script blackletter or fraktur.<hi rendition="simple:italic">
for characters in formal cursive. For simple italics, it is enough to use<hi>
without an attribute.<hi rendition="simple:cursive">
