Each tag <l><\/code> (line<\/em>) includes a single verse, and will always include the attribute @n<\/code> that indicates its canonical numbering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to make \u201cparagraphs\u201d in a long sequence of verses (in epic texts, for example), you group the <l><\/code> using <p><\/code> (cf. Structure of an Epic Poem)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Transpositions of verses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
In dramatic works, in which each speech of a character is included in its own <sp><\/code> (cf. <sp>)<\/a>, the problem sometimes arises that a verse is shared by two or more characters. We then need to divide the <l><\/code> into the required parts with the attribute @part,<\/code> in this way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As can be seen in the example, verse 35 is divided between three different characters, and each one is identified by the value of @part<\/code>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
  • @part=\"I\"<\/code>: start of verse. If there are only two halves, the first half; if there are three, the first part.<\/li>
  • @part=\"M\"<\/code>: middle part of the line. This might not be necessary if the verse is only divided between two characters. It is very unlikely that more than three people will speak in the same line, so we do not allow that.<\/li>
