{"id":1330,"date":"2021-02-13T14:16:59","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T13:16:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thebarumfabula.usc.es\/guidelines\/listwit\/siglas-para-consensus-codicum\/"},"modified":"2021-03-14T12:10:02","modified_gmt":"2021-03-14T11:10:02","slug":"siglas-para-consensus-codicum","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/thebarumfabula.usc.es\/en\/guidelines\/listwit\/siglas-para-consensus-codicum\/","title":{"rendered":"Sigla for <i>Consensus codicum<\/i>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes from the <a href=\"http:\/\/thebarumfabula.usc.es\/en\/guidelines\/el-aparato-critico-de-la-edicion\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"1889\">apparatus<\/a> we will want to mention that a reading is confirmed by a group of manuscripts or <em>consensus codicum<\/em>, which in traditional editions are usually identified by the sigla \"cett.\", \"\u03c9\", etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To do this, we introduce a <code data-enlighter-language=\"xml\" class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\">&lt;witness&gt;<\/code> in the <code data-enlighter-language=\"xml\" class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\">&lt;listWit&gt;<\/code> of codices, using the sigla or the conventions of our reference editions. In this form:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"xml\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">&lt;witness xml:id=\"cett\">\n\t&lt;abbr type=\"siglum\">cett.&lt;\/abbr>\n\tceteri codices aut omnes praeter eos qui separatim laudantur\n&lt;\/witness><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The text describing the manuscript here is replaced by the description explaining what this <em>consensus<\/em>consists of. But if an abstract description such as this does not provide much information about which particular manuscripts are included in it, then it may be useful to list the manuscripts that comprise this <em>consensus<\/em>one by one, using a cross reference:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"xml\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">&lt;witness xml:id=\"cett\">\n\t&lt;abbr type=\"siglum\">cett.&lt;\/abbr>\n\tceteri codices aut omnes praeter eos qui separatim laudantur: &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#A\"\/>, &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#B\"\/> et &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#F\"\/>\n&lt;\/witness><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Another type of <em>consensus<\/em> can serve to cite in the witness list a lost manuscript that is reconstructed from others, as for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"xml\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">&lt;witness xml:id=\"\u03bc\">\n\t &lt;abbr type=\"siglum\">\u03bc&lt;\/abbr>\n\t amissus codex quidam Patauinus, ex &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#S\"\/>, &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#F\"\/>, &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#M\"\/>, &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#N\"\/> et &lt;ref type=\"cross\" target=\"#V\"\/> conflatus\n&lt;\/witness><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>The <code data-enlighter-language=\"xml\" class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\">&lt;ref><\/code> is explained in detail in the section <a href=\"http:\/\/thebarumfabula.usc.es\/en\/guidelines\/etiquetas-importantes\/ref\/\" data-type=\"docs\" data-id=\"1364\">Links and cross-references<\/a>.
